PROJECTIntroduction [Biosketch]
- Dr. Wasim Arif is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, with over 23 years of academic and research experience. He obtained his B.E. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the University of Burdwan, graduating First Class First in the discipline, followed by his M.E. from ETCE, Jadavpur University, and Ph.D. from ECE, NIT Silchar.
- His research interests include 5G/6G Wireless Communications, UAV/ISAC/IRS communications, NTN communication, AI-driven communications, and emerging microwave sensing technologies. He has published over 105 research articles in reputed journals and conferences, with research support from agencies including ANRF, MeitY, DST, DHE, and NRDC, and has collaborated with premier institutions such as IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, etc. He has supervised eight Ph.D. scholars, with five scholars currently pursuing their doctoral research under his guidance.
- Dr. Arif shows deep commitment to student mentorship, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Student teams mentored by him have won three Gold Medals at the Smart India Hackathon. He has also been actively involved in strengthening the innovation and startup ecosystem at NIT Silchar, contributing to the establishment of institutional incubation and entrepreneurship initiatives. Under his leadership, an inclusive Technology Business Incubator has been sanctioned for establishment at NIT Silchar under the DST–NIDHI initiative, with the objective of fostering technology-driven startups and supporting aspiring entrepreneurs. He is the Director of a Section-8 company named NITS Foundation for Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship, established under NIT Silchar for DST NIDHI iTBI.
- An IEEE Senior Member, Dr. Arif has held leadership positions in IEEE ComSoc and IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society (TEMS) Kolkata Chapters. Beyond academics and research, he enjoys cricket and badminton and is passionate about engaging with students, nurturing young talent, and fostering a vibrant culture of research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
