BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Dr. R. Murugan was born in Ramanathapuram, Tamilnadu, India. He received a B.E. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering, an M.E. degree in Embedded Systems Technologies from Anna University, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India, and a Ph.D. degree from Information and Communication Engineering, Centre for Research, Anna University, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. He worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Aalim Muhammed Salegh College of Engineering, Chennai, from 01st August 2010 to 15 December 2017. He worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, St.Peter’s Engineering College, Hyderabad, from 08th January 2018 to 30th May 2018. He has worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, Assam, India, since 15 June 2018. He has published more than 105 research articles in various international and national journals and conferences to date. He is a fellow of IETE, an active member of IEEE, and a life member of the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), India. He is the chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society of the joint chapter of the IEEE Kolkata section and IEEE Silchar Subsection. He is the Co-Chair of the student activities committee of the IEEE Silchar Sub-Section.

He received an outstanding reviewer award from Bio-medical Signal Processing and Control – Elsevier Journal and also received the best paper award from various flagship International Conferences. He is an Invited reviewer of many journals, including IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, IEEE Internet of Things, Journal of IEEE Access, Bio-medical Signal Processing and Control, etc. He received a young researcher fellowship from DST-SERB, Govt. of India, for the project “A Nationwide Study on Retinal Detachment in India with Emphasis on the Risk of the Fellow Eye through Fundus Images using Deep Learning.” He is the recipient of the NVIDIA Academic Hardware Grant Program for the project Diagnosis of Retinal Pathologies using Deep Learning.

He published more than 45 journal publications, 49 conference proceedings, two books, 11 book chapters, and six patents in his credit. His area of interest which includes Bio-medical signal and image processing, medical imaging, Retinal image analysis, computer vision, pattern recognition, machine learning, and deep learning.
